Joint CEF - STA Webinar on the 2019 Financial Soundness Indicators (FSIs) Guide

Mr. Paulo Drummond, IMF-CEF Director, gave opening remarks, and Ms. Chiraz Labidi, Senior Economist at the IMF-CEF, moderated the event. The speakers were Ms. Samah Torchani, Economist, STA, IMF and Mr. Meraj Allahrakha, Economist, STA, IMF.
The speakers highlighted the motivations behind the adoption of the new 2019 FSIs guide and provided the audience with an overview of the main changes and adjustments made to the FSIs. They scrutinized the new FSI framework and provided guidance on the modalities of data compilation, reporting and dissemination using the new methodology and the new report forms.
As illustrated in the graphic below, the panelists emphasized the timeline of the transition from old to new reporting and the migration to the new templates. They also highlighted the work done at the countries’ level in compiling the FSIs and the importance of a timely adoption of the new report forms. They have assured the participants that the IMF’s Statistics department stands ready to provide the needed technical assistance to countries in the region to adopt the new framework.
The floor then opened for questions from a diverse audience from the region, comprising public sector officials.
