Webinar on Data Adequacy Assessment and Data Provision to the Fund for Surveillance Purposes

The IMF-Middle East Center for Economics and Finance (IMF-CEF), the IMF’s Statistics Department (STA), the Strategy, Policy and Review Department (SPR), and the Middle East and Central Asia Department (MCD) held a joint webinar titled "Data Adequacy Assessment and Data Provision to the Fund for Surveillance Purposes" on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Mr. Paulo Drummond, Director of the CEF, delivered the opening remarks, and Mr. Basil Awad, Economics Analyst at the CEF, moderated the event. Ms. Samah Torchani, an Economist at STA, presented the new Data Adequacy Assessment (DAA) framework, which was introduced this year. The DAA provides IMF staff with comprehensive tools to evaluate data and foster dialogue with member countries. Ms. Yuan Monica Gao Rollinson, an Economist at MCD, shared insights on the recent application of the DAA framework by the Saudi country team. Mr. Dmitry Plotnikov, a Senior Economist at SPR, discussed the updated Data Provision for Surveillance, presenting the revised list of data categories required from members, designed to enhance macroeconomic analysis and adapt policy advice to the evolving economic and financial landscape. The webinar concluded with an engaging discussion featuring contributions from a diverse audience of public sector officials across the Arab world..
