Webinar on Climate Change and Fiscal Risks

The IMF-Middle East Center for Economics and Finance (IMF-CEF) and the Africa Training Institute (ATI) held a joint webinar titled “Climate Change and Fiscal Risks” on November 12, 2024. Sukhwinder Singh, Director of ATI, and Moez Souissi, Deputy Director of CEF, delivered opening remarks, with Hanene Belhaj moderating the Q&A session. Speakers Vimal Thakoor and Moulay El Omari presented on the linkages between climate change and fiscal risks, outlining policy approaches for effective risk management. Panelists Sophie Belle and Jude Commetant from the Ministry of Finance of Seychelles, and Hakima Haiti, former Minister of Environment of Morocco, shared country-specific experiences in building climate resilience. The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&As session, drawing participation from a diverse audience across the MENA and Sub-Saharan African regions, including public officials, academics, business leaders, civil society representatives, and international organizations.
